Spicey pre-fermented meat balls

Spicey pre-fermented meat balls

These meat balls are delicious and go well with the creamy tofu and mushroom sauce. The reason we don't add the herbs to the ferment mixture is because the herbs tend to kill off the microbes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of minced meat (500 gms)
  • 1 small onion - chopped into small pieces
  • 1 small bell pepper - chopped into fine pieces
  • 3 tsp of Chinese 5 spice
  • 1/4 tsp of red chilly pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 4 tsp of Shiokoji
  • 2 tsp mixed herbs
  • Coconut oil for the roasting tin

Method

  1. Combine all the ingredients except the herbs in a bowl and mix thoroughly
  2. Leave to ferment for 8-16 hours
  3. Add the herbs and mix thoroughly
  4. Use your hands to create small meat balls and place them in a greased roasting tin
  5. Roast on a medium to hot oven until brown (around 15-20 mins)
  6. Enjoy!
